Log for School Year 2004/2005
Seneca donated 25 PIII computers. Each computer came with network, sound and video cards and 128MB RAM.
We started thinking about connecting our two schools using a long-distance wireless network. The majority of 2005 was spent on this sub-project. For details please see our wireless project page.
Removed AMSN from Jack. School policy. Also, installed more Impress templates in Open Office on both Jack and Jill.
I also attempted to install Linux on one of the PII clients with a 6GB hard disk but it seems to be too slow to be useful. Better as a network client. Returned one PII system because it won't power on; maybe a power supply problem.
Installed AMSN onto Jack. Students now have access to MSN Messanger.
Pod D in lab 2 has a network problem. I tested all 6 cables and it appears as though the main cable feed to Jack is the problem. Dominic will assign a student to troubleshoot the cable. May need new connectors.
Installed floppyd on Jack and Jill so students have floppy access. Also installed MToolsFM for a floppy GUI.
Set up two more printers (another HP III and a Cannon Laser) but neither work properly. Both have hardware failures.
